What is Rotary?
Rotary is an international organization that brings together people from different professions, connected by shared values – friendship, integrity, responsibility and service to the community.
An international organization of people who serve the community
The first Rotary club was founded by Paul P. Harris in Chicago on 23 February 1905, with the idea of connecting people from different professions through friendship, the exchange of ideas and mutual support. From that initial idea grew an international organization that today brings together Rotary clubs around the world and directs its work toward serving the community and creating positive change.
With their knowledge, experience, time and resources, Rotarians launch and support projects that address the needs of their communities and beyond. From local humanitarian campaigns and support for education and health care to international programs and initiatives, Rotary connects people who believe that more can be achieved by working together.

Rotary’s principal motto, “Service Above Self”, sums up precisely that idea – that we use our personal and professional abilities not only for our own advancement, but also for the good of the community.

Rotaract is an international network of young people who, through volunteering, professional development, education and fellowship, work to create positive change in their communities.
